So the ruling came in on the St Stephen the Great Chapter 7 Bankruptcy case in relation to the Motion to Dismiss due to amongst other things supposed irregularities in the filings – like the named company doesn’t exist, like despite owning a chain of bookshops in the UK no assets as such were listed, like well ok I could go on for a while best you read it yourself if you need refreshing – http://www.ministryoftruth.me.uk/?s=ssg
So anyway the Judge did his job and tossed the Chapter 7 application out “with prejudice”. Now the full transcript from the court isn’t out yet, which is kind of a pity as it would be nice to know exactly what was said. However it has got to be a bit of a kicker for Mr J. Mark Brewer, after all he was working as his own lawyer and therefore a representative of his Law firm Brewer & Pritchard, PC of Houston (www.bplaw.com)- and getting a case thrown out never particularly good for a lawyer or law firms reputation, but getting in the sort of taffle this one has certainly can’t be that good one supposes. Still there we go win some lose some!
I guess though that this means Mr J Mark Brewer of Brewer & Pritchard, PC operating out of Houston, Texas is now going to have to go the more expensive route and do it the right way as he should of anyway! and go through the UK courts and Bankruptcy procedures! (http://www.thebookseller.com/news/65905-brewer-defends-ssg-liquidation.html) But wait Mr J Mark Brewer is going through the UK Courts already – he’s due (or someone representing him is) to attend a case conference on the 18th September in Bury St-Edmunds in relation to the Employment Tribunal(s) of about 30 very unhappy workers! or at least thats what I was told by one of the USDAW people. Oh and in case he was thinking that taffling people with lots of different names for the same organisational structure doing the same job was going to work the ET has drawn together all the cases for SSG & ENC & St Stephen the Great Charitable Trust.
So it looks like things could get interesting! but whats this? as if that’s not enough the brother Phil (that’s Philip W. Brewer of Tucson,Arizona just in case you mistakenly though Tucson was in England – after all Mr Philip W. Brewer certainly seems to: http://asingleblog.wordpress.com/2008/08/10/about-that-beast-of-a-plane/ )! would seem to be getting in on the act of not working entirely in a manner one might expect with such high cost legal advice at hand to always check the ramifications of statements made & written! It would seem some people just are not too clear on the concepts of contractual obligation and complying with regulations it would seem from what is said here: http://spckssg.wordpress.com/2008/08/24/philip-brewer-says-immediately-post-this/
I think Phil must be fed up with all the attention his brother is getting and all the other people out there who have people setting up facebook pages for them, and all the friends they have, so maybe people should be a little generous and go friend him! http://www.facebook.com/srch.php?nm=philip+w+brewer
I am sure the D&C at Durham Cathedral would love to consider him a friend and visit some with him: especially in light of the petition going on: http://spckssg.wordpress.com/2008/09/01/durham-cathedral-bookshop-petition-update/
So anyway there we go the fun that is the goings on of SSG (Saint Stephen the Great) and its many incarnations though not SSG LLC as they don’t exist, the Texas Bankruptcy Courts would seem to say so!http://www.mattwardman.com/blog/2008/08/29/mark-brewer-ssg-bankruptcy-application-dismissed-with-prejudice-in-houston-texas/
To really keep up to date with everything going on then visit some of the links across the way, Matt Wardman & SPCKSSG are perhaps the most detailed, with ministry of truth for a more legal assessment.
Oh by the way I thought maybe this might hve been something Mr Brewer should have looked at a few months back – but then hindsight and all that lark!
Loved this post. Thanks. Brewer chose a funny photo for Facebook. He’s never going to find a friend. Always said his wife dresses him funny.
